Kevin Tompkins
dobro, vocals
Kevin Tompkins was born in Richmond Va. in 1977. He moved to Franklin County NC at the age of four. There he grew up listening to his Granddad, Irvin Hunt, play the dobro. He never took a real interest in playing until 1994. That was unfortunately one month after his Granddad passed away. Kevin and his dad were talking, around July 1994, and his dad suggested Kevin try and learn the dobro. Kevin paid Bennie Fuller a couple of visits, and was off. From there Kevin discovered he had a special gift he knew nothing about before this time.
His influences span a range of dobro players, but the greatest of these are Josh Graves, and Jerry Douglas. He contributes to the vocals of the band and has written two songs on GrassStreet's debut CD release, Better Times.
Kevin has a real love for bluegrass and looks forward to making the best music he can for many years to come.
On stage, Kevin plays a Scheerhorn.
